Home pregnancy testing kits

Gone are the days when you had to trudge down to your neighbourhood pathology lab to hear the good news. Now with reliable Home pregnancy testing kits you can conduct the test right in the privacy of your home.

Expert view
There are a lot of such tests available with chemist shops. These tests are almost 99% reliable. A pregnancy can be detected within 48 hours of missing a period.

The kits available in the market are -

Clear View

Reliablility
- This is according to the manufacturers 99% reliable. It detects pregnancy from the date your period is due.

Time taken
- 3 minutes

Method
- The 'absorbent sampler' is just held in the urine stream.

Convenience
- It can be conducted anytime in the day, as opposed to some tests that require the sample of the urine to be taken first thing in the morning.
- There no handling of urine required, i.e. you don't need to collect a urine sample in a container. So no messy work!
- It doesn't require refrigeration. You don't need to bother about the temperature of the testing device, unlike some other tests.
- Has recently been launched and is therefore available in select cities only.

Price
- Rs 150. This is expensive, specially considering the prices of other pregnancy test kits. Even the laboratory testing is cheaper! The convenience and the ease of usage offered by the product may well outweigh its high cost.

Pregcolor card

- 5 minutes

Method
- Urine sample is collected. A dropper is used to deposit some urine on the testing card.

Convenience
- It requires refrigeration. You have to first bring down the temperature of the testing device to room temperature.
- Urine needs to be first collected, which is often messy.

- 5 minutes

Method
- Urine sample is collected. A dropper is used to deposit some urine on the testing card.

Convenience
- It requires refrigeration. You have to first bring down the temperature of the testing device to room temperature.

Veklocit

- 5 minutes

Method
- Urine sample is collected first thing in the morning. A dropper is used to deposit 3 drops of urine on the testing card.

- The urine sample needs to be taken at a specific time
- Urine needs to be first collected, which is often messy.
